Freeing Disk Space on PT680 C: Drive:
1. If you have installed any Win2K service packs, either delete or
move to D: the folders under C:WINNT that have a name starting with
$NtUninstall followed by several additional characters. This could
free up to 7-8 MB.
2. Check the destination for temporary files. Click StartRun then
type cmd in the Open: window and click OK. In the Command window,
type set and press return. If you do not see the lines: TEMP=D:TEMP
TMP=D:TEMP
then open C:autoexec.bat with Notepad, add the following lines and save
it.
set TEMP=D:TEMP
set TMP=D:TEMP
3. Change the Temporary Internet Files deirectory to D: Right click
the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop and click on Properties.
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click on Settings. Click the
Move Folder button and in the Browse for Folder window, select the D:
drive top level then click OK. This will move the files to
D:Temporary Internet Files, saving up to 59 MB of space on C:
4. Delete or move to D: C:WINN
TDriver Cachei386*.cab. If you
move them to D: it is probably a good idea to create a new sub-folder
such as D:Driver Cache so they will be easy to find if required.
There are probably 3 cab files totalling @ 63 MB.
5. Delete or move to D: C:WINNTMUIFALLBACK all subfolders.
There should be 7. These should probably be retained on D: so they
can be restored to C: in the event that the user wishes to select a
different language. The 7 folders total 146 MB.
6. Delete or move to D: C:WINNTServicePackFilesi386langchs and
C:WINNTServicePackFilesi386langjpn folders. The two folders
contain @ 2 MB total.
Making all of these changes will free up approximately 210 - 220 MB
immediately and prevent your C: drive from getting filled up with
temporary files.
