If you have mirrored file systems using Solstice DiskSuite and use
'ufsdump' in single-user mode to backup the file systems, performance can
be quite poor compared to running 'ufsdump' in multi-user mode. This is
because the 'metasync' command, which is usually run from one of the
DiskSuite startup scripts in /etc/rc2.d, has not been run yet. Therefore,
the top level metadevice is dirty and causes slower reads from the file
system to tape.
A workaround is to run the script manually, which will run the 'metasync'
command. This should take very little time.
On DiskSuite 3.0 through 4.2, the script is "S95SUNWmd.sync". On DiskSuite
4.2.1 and above, the script to run is "S95lvm.sync"
