领测软件测试网 Internal disk subsystems

main contents:
properly configure internal disks in the systems
describe the internal disk interfaces used for each Sun Enterprise server
using standard solaris operation environment addressing, determine which disk has failed

The disk board capacity for these servers varies as follows:
the sun enterprise 4500, supports up to four disk boards for a total of eight internal disk drives
the sun enterprise 5500, supports up to four disk boards for a total of eight internaldisk drives
the sun enterprise 6500, supports up to two disk boards for a total of four internal disk drives. This is due to limiting disk boards to slots 14 and 15 only

Physical addresses are designed to follow a hardware tree to a specific device
Logical addresses allow applications to point to a specific device and s specific bus
Solaris Operating Environment performs the translation between logical and physical addresses transparent to the end-user

A typical physical path name for a disk device is:
/pci@6,4000/scsi@4,1/sd@3,0:d,raw
A typical logical path name is:
c2t1d0s1

enterprise 250-up to six 18-Gbyte UltraSCSI disks
enterprise 450-up to twenty 4.2-Gbyte SCSI disks
enterprise 3500-up to eight 9.1-Gbyte FC-AL disks
enterprise 4x00,5x00-up to eight 9.1-Gbyte SCSI disks
enterprise 6x00-up to four 9.1-Gbyte SCSI disks

The sun enterprise 250 is the low-end of the sun enterprise server line.This section describes the following:
Ultra Port Architecture(UPA) system interconnect
system I/O
storage
disk physical device address structure

The sun enterprise 450 is similar to the sun enterprise 250 except it has increased storage capacity.This section describes the following:
Ultra Port Architecture system interconnect
system I/O
storage
load balancing
disk addressing

By design,the sun enterprise 450 divides the twenty drives into five groups of four drives each. Each group is attached to a separate SCSI bus. the separate buses create the following advantages:
1,it allows multiple system processes to execute disk read-write operations simultaneously
2,it reduces disk I/O latency by reducing the number of queued I/O requests at each controller and by
3,it reduces contention between drives for access to the SCSI bus
4,it further enhancing disk I/O performance by allowing large files of data to be striped across multiple drives and controlloers
5,it reduces request queueing and bus arbitration delays
6,it increases total system availability by allowing drives on one controller channel to be hot-swapped without disrupting user access to data stored on other SCSI buses

The sun enterprise 3500 is the low-end of the sun enterprise x500 servers. it supports either internal FC/AL drives or external storage arrays. this section describes the following:
internal FC-AL drives
fibre channel interface boards
disk address structure
load balancing

The sun enterprise 4x00-6x00 make up the remainder of the sun enterprise server line. they support either internal disk boards or external storage arrays. This section describes the following:
the interface type
compatibility issuse
