How to upgrade to multiprocesser in winnt4

　　This procedure was tested for times. But the most reliable method of upgrading from one processor to multiple processors is to perform a NEW INSTALL of the NT Server operating system. If this is not possible, use the following procedure: 
1. Create Emergency Repair Diskette(ERD). 
2. Make sure a complete backup has done. (ALL UPGRADE PROCEDURES ARE DANGEROUS. MICROSOFT DOES NOT GUARANTEE THE FUNCTIONALITY OF IT'S RESOURCE KIT UTILITIES) 
3. Obtain and install the Microsoft NT Server Resource Kit (version 4.0).----For UPTOMP.EXE 
4. Download the following file from Microsoft's FTP site at : ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/reskit/nt40/uptomp/uptomp.inf 
5. Replace the UPTOMP.INF file (found in the same directory with the UPTOMP.EXE file) with the version downloaded from Microsoft. 
6. Power down the server and install the new processor(s). 
7. Restart the server and log in. 
8. Install the NT Server CD in the CDROM drive and run the UPTOMP utility. 
9. When prompted for the path to the HAL files, let it default and select "MPS MULTIPROCESSOR PC" as the HAL to install. 

You will be messaged that the upgrade is complete. At this point DO NOT SHUT DOWN AND RESTART!!! IF YOU SHUTDOWN AND RESTART AT THIS POINT, YOUR SYSTEM WILL NOT START!!! 
11. Locate the %systemroot%\repair\setup.log, modify the file CRC value of win32k.sys to equal 13e42a. This value is for mulit-processor and is used when installing future service packs or repair files. 
12. Reinstall the service pack before you shut down and restart. The system should restart normally and sucessfully Attached files are download from MS web.
